Most Scalable Collaboration

The Brownstone Executive Condominium

Leading eco-developer City Developments Limited, together with its project partners TID Pte. Ltd. and TeamBuild Engineering & Construction Pte Ltd adopted the groundbreaking Prefabricated Pre-finished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) advanced technology for The Brownstone Executive Condominium (EC) in Sembawang. In PPVC, building modules completed with finished, fixtures and fittings are manufactured off-site in factories then transported to the site for installation in a ‘Lego-like’ manner. This is expected to lead to productivity gains of over 40%. More than 4,000 building modules will be used for The Brownstone, likely the world’s largest and first-of-its-kind application of concrete PPVC for a large-scale private residential development.

Building Rapid Prototyping Capability for Package Design

The collaboration of P&G with Creatz3D brought and enabled the adoption of leading edge 3D Printing technologies in the R&D prototyping processes. Two technologies such as Fused Deposition Modeling type 3D printer Fortus 250mc and PolyJet type of 3D printer Eden 260vs quickly became pivotal resources to turn design ideas to reality via a rapid prototyping approach. Along with these on-site 3D printers, Creatz3D has continued to support and introduce innovative solutions to P&G several times with their latest and best quality 3D printers and materials for demo trials and back up services. This built a high level of trust and momentum with the SGIC R&D scientists and engineers to fully capitalise on the innovative power of these technologies, which led to significant reductions in cost and project time delivery.

The global banking sector in recent years has seen the tightening of balance sheets and underwriting standards, as financial institutions strive to control credit exposure and risks in a more holistic and effective manner. UOB was looking for a solution to standardise and streamline its credit risk origination and assessment, and lending process across its global network.  The modular nature of Integro’s SmartLender Commercial Suite allows UOB to do so across client segments and geographies. This automated process includes pre-approval loan structuring and simulation, rating and notching, approval and underwriting flows and post-approval monitoring.

DBS TechMatch

By DBS Bank Ltd + Triple Pte Ltd + JMD Pacific Pte Ltd

DBS TechMatch is an initiative to help SMEs find technologies to support their opportunity or challenge areas. The initiative is led by DBS BusinessClass, and supported by Infocomm Investments Pte Ltd (IIPL) and IPI Singapore. To participate, SMEs write in to DBS BusinessClass, outlining their business background and details about their problem statement or opportunity gaps. Based on their requirements, DBS will connect them with other BusinessClass' members or advisors that can answer the challenge. If the request has specific raw technology requirements, IPI will take over the solution sourcing. Selected SMEs that require bespoke solution concepts will be put through a 5-day solution sprint process (Sprint Hacks) managed by IIPL.

Collaboration Towards Smart Factory Using Autonomous Guided Vehicles

Adopting capabilities of modern technology advancement to reduce the reliance of human resource for labour intensive and low value processes – Infineon is moving in this direction to sustain its presence in a high cost society like Singapore. This led to a collaboration between Infineon, and a local SME, HOPE Technik, to introduce Autonomous Guided Vehicles to automate material transportation within the factory. This is the first of a kind for assembly manufacturing in Singapore and for Infineon assembly factories worldwide as well as a key cornerstone in Infineon Singapore’s journey to transform itself into a Smart Factory of the future.

Drone Inventory Solution

Supply Chain City™ represents YCH Group’s vision for logistics and supply chain in the future. Part of this is a 2 million square feet warehousing and logistics space via the patented Fusionaris™ design of high storage capacity Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) integrated with ramp up warehousing. Through the use of robotics and RFID, YCH and Y3 deploye autonomous drones that are equipped with RFID scanners and video analytics capabilities to fully automate the manual cycle counting process and relieve the warehouse operators from the task. The estimated savings are 245 man-hours per month.

Packaging Re-Design “Holistic Carbon Footprint Reduction & Productivity Improvement”

Leica Singapore and Fagerdala Singapore collaborated on a joint Value Analysis, Value Engineering (VAVE) project to improve product packaging for Leica microscopes, "CATS" and "SPIDER". This project created an innovative packaging solution that reduced transportation and material cost while improving workflow productivity. The re-designed packaging is also more environmentally friendly and leaves a smaller carbon footprint.  For 6 months, the team embarked on a Lean journey to drive improvement in areas of quality, delivery, cost, inventory and productivity. While Leica trained Fagerdala on Danaher Business System (DBS) quality tools to ensure common understanding of project methodologies and expectations, Fagerdala also shared their expert knowledge in packaging with Leica. Both companies gained new insights and knowledge from the project on top of award winning packaging solutions.

Collaboration on Food Waste Recycling Efforts

Marina Bay Sands collaborated with Enerprof Pte Ltd to install BioHiTech America on-site aerobic digesters to recycle food waste in their property. The on-site aerobic digester works via a biological process to breakdown and digest food waste with water as a by-product. This water is subsequently safely discharge to the sewage system. As a result of this collaboration, Marina Bay Sands successfully diverted food waste away from incineration plants and landfills.

Collective Works Capital Tower

In March 2016, CapitaLand Singapore and coworking space pioneer, Collective Works, entered into a joint venture to establish Singapore's first premium, high performance coworking space in a Grade A office building in the Central Business District. The partnership is the first of its kind in Singapore and leverages CapitaLand’s extensive network and real estate expertise as well as Collective Works’ design experience and market leadership in coworking. The location is a 50:50 joint venture and was envisioned as a 'statement to market' on how sophisticated the future of working could be. Benefiting from a prime position above Tanjong Pagar MRT Station, at Level 12 of Capital Tower, the coworking space features numerous first-to-market elements: redefining the coworking genre in Singapore.

Smart Manufacturing at HP

HP has been collaborating with NUS-ISS since 2014, when its Master of Technology in Enterprise Business Analytics was launched. The aim of this collaboration is to harness the power of Big Data to bring HP's manufacturing into the Industrie 4.0 era, also known as Smart Manufacturing. As this is a relatively new application of Big Data, HP recognised the need to conduct original research and develop new methods internally. As of 2016, HP has gained a number of new techniques, whilst providing NUS-ISS' master’s students with valuable relevant experience.

Kimberly-Clark (K-C) collaborated with homegrown SME Essential Engineering (EEC) Pte Ltd to produce one of its biggest global innovations, Huggies Baby Wipes, using its patented, advanced and automated technologies – not just for Singapore but for export to 11 countries in the Asia Pacific. Designed and executed in Singapore, the solution leveraged EEC’s strength in the Food and Pharmaceutical industries, to create a world-class system for the new manufacturing line. This transformational collaboration helped K-C reduce costs by 21%, save 25% of man hours and accelerate project completion.

Re-usable Collaborative Innovation Framework

By combining the speed, low cost and agility of startups and the capability, capital and network of non-competing MNCs, Bosch, Munic Re and JFDI.Asia created a re-usable collaborative innovation framework that aims to smoothen the path for future collaborations between MNCs and entrepreneurs in Singapore. This framework was tested on a pilot project, a startup business called Surelock, which is being incorporated as a joint venture in Singapore. Surelock’s first operations will be launched in Vietnam, before its anticipated regional roll-out across Southeast Asia.
